On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October 2023, over 700 squares throughout Italy will be busy with the National Days of "I don't take risks - Good civil protection practices”, the campaign on actions with which each of us can contribute to reducing risks such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, volcanic risks and forest fires.
This weekend's commitment will close the which involves thousands of civil protection volunteers in the all over Italy. The event aims to promote the fundamental culture of prevention because everyone can make a difference in their own safety and that of those around them.
Since 2011 is the public communication campaign on good civil protection practices based on the synergy between science, volunteers and institutions, which is aimed at everyone with clear and recognizable messages, to transform awareness into action, 365 days a year.
The campaign is promoted by the Department of Civil Protection with ANPAS (National Association of Public Assistance), INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology), ReLUIS (Network of University Laboratories of Earthquake Engineering), CIMA Foundation (International Center for Environmental Monitoring), Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces and ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities).
THEINGV, as always, actively participates in the training of the civil protection volunteer organizations participating in the campaign, making useful materials available for the digital squares.
SPOT INR 2023:
On October 13th, on the occasion of the international day for natural disaster risk reduction (), an absolute novelty of this 2023 edition will be the distribution in all lower secondary schools of the comic “The decisive moment”: the new generations will thus be involved, making the topics of safety and prevention accessible to all.

Neither " four kids find themselves in the middle of an earthquake, a flood, a tsunami and a forest fire, trying to deal with the consequences. At their age, they will find themselves having to make decisive choices to save themselves and others against a seemingly invincible enemy, the Risk Equation."
Inside the comic, positioned at strategic points in the story, gods appear QR code through which you access video linked to the individual risks faced by the protagonists.
The initiative, promoted by the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit, also sees teachers as an integral part of the project: they will accompany the students in the vision of 6 video lessons of approximately 15 minutes each, where experts from the scientific and civil protection community, including researchers from INGV, delve deeper into the topics addressed.

INGV”, highlights the President Carlo Doglioni stated, "is the research body involved in the study, monitoring and surveillance of earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, and is an operational structure of the National Civil Protection System, sharing data in real time, as a reference point for information on events, not only in emergency situations.
Cultivating memory is fundamental as the first prevention activity, because the permanent conflict with oblivion leads to lowering our guard towards the risks that nature places before us. Knowledge and prevention activities make citizens aware and the first actors in reducing these risksi ".
