Until 23 April the 18th edition dedicated to the 'imaginary'

Imaginaries to explore, to build, to develop, making different experiences, approaches and disciplines dialogue with each other. Here is the focus of 2023 for the Rome Science Festival.
Thanks to the power of imagination we conceive works of art, new technologies or, more simply, solutions to our daily problems.
Even science sees the imagination as a powerful ally for starting research and formulating hypotheses, interpreting data and pursuing better results.

Among the numerous events of the Festival, the appointments with the geosciences of INGV:

FAIRY TALES AND NURSERY RHYMES FOR THE EARTH

(edited by INGV, in collaboration with Studio Bottoni)

Francesca Satta Flores – director
Lara Panizzi, Valentina Greco and Paolo Mele – actors
Gaia Bottoni – production and sound

Our planet is rich in geophysical phenomena, often associated with risks for human beings: among these, earthquakes and volcanoes are particularly important examples because they allow us to study and understand the internal structure of the Earth, its history and its evolution. These phenomena are often present in the tales of popular tradition. The theatrical adaptation by Francesca Satta Flores, staged by the Ile Flottante company, develops around modern nursery rhymes and traditional myths of different cultures to tell, with a spectacular and playful language, the relationship of humanity with our planet and the scientific knowledge it has developed over the centuries.

We often talk about catastrophes, we see them both on the news and in the cinema, we fear them and try to avoid them.

But what are disasters? How many forms can they take?

Some are immediate and destructive, such as fires or earthquakes, others take place over longer periods of time and with less visible effects in the short term, such as climate change or mass extinctions.

Knowing about disasters is the first, fundamental step in being able to imagine how to deal with them.

FROM THE MINE TO THE STARS

(edited by GARR, INFN, INGV)
Massimo Carboni – Deputy Director and Chief Technical Officer of GARR
Viviana Fafone – INFN manager of the Advanced Virgo detector
Giulio Selvaggi – INGV Research Manager
Moderated by Roberta Fulci Journalist and presenter of RAI Radio3 Scienza

Listening to the cosmos from underground: this is the purpose of the Einstein Telescope (ET), a future underground detector for gravitational waves that will allow us to further expand our knowledge of the cosmos.

For a large research infrastructure of this magnitude, different skills work in synergy, from physics, to seismology, to high-performance network connectivity, which will make the candidate site, a mine in the heart of Sardinia, the ideal place for the observatory , also contributing to the development of the territory that hosts it.
