As part of the initiatives organized for the European Researchers' Night 2020, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will participate again this year with numerous initiatives throughout the national territory.
On Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September, at the CineVillage Cinematographic Arena in Parco Talenti in Rome, "Talenti per la Scienza" is scheduled, an event dedicated to fun with science organized by NET, a project of the European Researchers' Night, with the collaboration of CineVillage Parco Talenti and Anec Lazio.
"Kids" of all ages are invited to interactive activities, laboratories, experiments, talks and scientific shows!
In particular, the appointments with INGV are:
• Friday 25 September, at 17:00, scientists will reveal the secrets of the geological and geomorphological history of the Roman landscape with an unmissable walk in Parco Talenti.
• Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September, from 18:00 to 22:00 with A planet that never stands still, you will know the characteristics of volcanoes and earthquakes to learn to live with the "roars" of their natural voice.
Admission is free, but some activities will be limited in number to comply with all safety regulations.
For information and reservations:
Furthermore, on Sunday 11 October, again as part of the NET project, INGV is organizing a scientific trek to Stromboli, to stroll at sunset to discover the "Mediterranean Lighthouse".
Admission is free upon reservation to be made by sending an email to
The Palermo Section of INGV participates in the European Researchers' Night 2020, as part of the European project Sharper, with an appointment which, on 27 November, will bring the general public closer to the world of research.
An exhibition stand will be set up for the event "Volcanoes, earthquakes and climate change: tweets from Earth", where a volcano model, the functioning of a seismograph, the prototype of a latest generation multidisciplinary observatory for the study of the underwater environment and an instrument for measuring the concentration of carbon dioxide used in environmental studies will be shown.
The researchers will illustrate the characteristics of the volcanic and seismic activity of our territory through multimedia tools and samples of Sicilian volcanic rocks. The geological characteristics of our country and the seismic hazard map in Italy will be illustrated.
New this year, the exhibition “Monitor Volcanic Art”, a creative synergy between art, science and environmental sustainability created by the students of the IV D of the Liceo Artistico Statale "Vincenzo Ragusa and Otama Kiyohara" of Palermo with the collaboration of the local section of the INGV. Five old PC monitors will be exhibited, recycled to new life in artistic form with acrylic painting and collage techniques, which today house 3D prints of Italian volcanoes monitored by INGV.
