The appointment with the Earth Day, the most important event in the world to raise awareness of the protection of the planet, with billions of people involved every year through the work of 75.000 partners in 193 countries to talk about environmental education, nature protection, sustainable development, solidarity and participation.
This year the Earth Day, which celebrates its fiftieth edition, has reinvented itself to deal with the Covid-19 health emergency that the whole planet is facing. The Italian program of the 2020 edition includes a long multimedia marathon of 12 hours, #OnePeopleOnePlanet, broadcast in live streaming on Rai Play from 8:00 to 20:00.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will join Earth Day with connections and contributions from Antarctica and from the three seismic and volcanic surveillance rooms of Rome, Naples and Catania, as well as with the intervention of a researcher during the round table coordinated by geologist and science popularizer Mario Tozzi .
#OnePeopleOnePlanet will be part of the #Earthrise global media event, which our country will have the task of opening by dedicating the world celebrations to Pope Francis on the fifth anniversary of his encyclical Laudato si', an important step in creating global awareness of the ongoing climate change , issued on the eve of the historic Paris Climate Agreement signed in 2015.
