The Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-5000+ is a modular ion chromatography system.
The system consists of 3 modules:
- a single-pump, dual-piston system;
- an eluent generator with RFIC module;
- an integrated chromatograph/detector module, with two separate, carefully controlled temperature zones.
With these new systems with high efficiency and selectivity it is possible to determine, in addition to the major constituents, also some minor elements, anionic (NO2-, PO43-) and cationic (NH4+) species, with good accuracy and precision.
The possibility of adding new modules with new instrumental configurations allows to analyze new chemical species and interface the instrument with other analytical instruments (ICP-MS).
The anionic system has recently been implemented with an amperometric detection system in order to be able to determine, once the analytical and sampling method has been developed, the sulfur species in volcanic fluids.
