4 -7 December 2019 INGV participated, at the Testaccio slaughterhouse in Rome, in the sixth edition of Isola della Sostenibilità, the national project curated by the homonymous social promotion association in which institutions, research bodies and companies met to educate the new generations to sustainable development.

10 December 2019 INGV hosted a representation of the PSIDS Countries, a group of Small Pacific Island Developing States, guest of the National Civil Protection Service for a week of advanced training, exchange of experiences and good practices related to the management of natural risks.

12 December 2019 The "Thalassa, marvels submerged by the Mediterranean" exhibition has been inaugurated, scheduled at the MANN - National Archaeological Museum of Naples until 9 March 2020. 16 December 2019 The team of researchers of the SENECA Project, coordinated by INGV, began its 40-day mission in tents in extreme conditions in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica, with the aim of evaluating the concentrations of gases and their emissions from the permafrost - the perennially frozen soil typical of the polar regions - and from the surface layers subject to thaw.
